Your Pass to Learning, Fun, and Adventure
Here's How to register for a Library Card:
- Print and fill out the Power Card Registration Form. Youth under 18 need the signature of a parent.
- Take the application and proof of address to your nearest library location.
- Present proof of address with your application. The Library accepts a Texas driver's license or Texas ID, utility or phone bill, or a personalized check. Ask a staff member about alternate ID. Fees apply for most out-of-state residents.
Search the Catalog and Place Holds
Place your holds from home and get email notification for pick-up. Ask your branch librarian if you need help with this service. Pick-up and check-out your items at the library location you choose. Check out period is two weeks.

Other Ways To Renew Your Books
- Renew items in person at the Central Library or any branch.
- Call the Library's 24-hour renewal line (832) 393-2280.
- Call any branch library during their operating hours. (Check our Library Card FAQ before renewing after hours. You must have your library card number to renew by phone.)
Discounted admissions to Local Museums
The Houston Public Library Power card gives you access to great resources and materials. It also gives you discounted admission to some of Houston's local museums.
- The Museum of Fine Arts Houston offers children with Power Card (18 & under) free general admission on Saturdays and Sundays.
- The Health Museum offers children (18 & under) $1.00 discount everyday with the Power Card.
